ARTIST STATEMENT
My photographs are based on the creation of an altered sense of reality; an amalgamation of representation and abstraction occurs to reframe our concepts of consciousness and perception of the world around us. I am not interested in what is in front of me, but in what it could be.
Photography is the perfect medium for my work because of its inherent duality: on one hand one can create representational images that have a resolution and supposed reality created by the camera, yet at the same time images can be created that are surreal, abstract and dreamlike. No other medium has this immediate dichotomy. Because of its size and weight, the view camera both allows and compels me to experience the subject on a more meditative, introspective level.
